Chemical Peels in Clapham

A chemical peel applies a controlled acid solution to accelerate the skin's natural exfoliation, revealing smoother skin underneath and prompting renewal. Ours range from a gentle gel peel through to stronger glycolic and pigment-targeting formulations.

Chemical Peels

Our Peels

The SkinCeuticals Gel Peel is the gentlest option and a sensible starting point if you have not had a peel before. The Micro Peel is available at 20% and 30% glycolic acid, stepping up in strength as your skin builds tolerance.

The Bio Re Peel is a biostimulating peel that works on texture and renewal with minimal visible shedding, which makes it useful when you want results without obvious peeling.

Peels for Pigmentation

Our Pigment Balancing Peel combines 40% glycolic acid with 10% citric acid and is formulated specifically for uneven skin tone, sun damage and post-inflammatory marks left behind by breakouts.

Pigmentation is stubborn and rarely resolves in a single session. A course, combined with rigorous daily SPF, gives far better results than isolated treatments — and without sun protection, pigmentation will simply return regardless of what is done in clinic.

Building Up Safely

We start at lower concentrations and increase strength across a course as your skin adapts. Going straight to the strongest available peel is how people end up with irritation, barrier damage and, in darker skin tones, worse pigmentation than they started with.

If you use retinol or other strong actives at home, stop several days before your appointment. Tell us about any history of cold sores, as peels can trigger an outbreak and may warrant preventative treatment.

Downtime and Aftercare

Expect redness and tightness for a day or two, with light flaking from day three for the stronger peels. Do not pick or peel flaking skin — let it shed naturally, as pulling it early risks scarring and pigmentation.

Daily broad-spectrum SPF is non-negotiable afterwards. Skin is considerably more vulnerable to UV following a peel, and neglecting sun protection can undo the treatment entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my skin visibly peel?

It depends on the strength. Gentler peels cause little or no visible shedding; stronger glycolic peels typically produce light flaking from around day three, lasting a few days.

How many peels will I need?

For a specific concern such as pigmentation or texture, a course of four to six spaced two to four weeks apart is usual, followed by occasional maintenance.

Are chemical peels safe for darker skin?

Yes, with appropriate strength and a careful build-up. Darker skin is more prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation, so we are deliberately conservative with concentration and spacing.

Can I have a peel if I use retinol?

Yes, but stop using retinol and other strong actives several days beforehand. Tell your therapist exactly what you use at home.

What should I avoid afterwards?

Sun exposure, sunbeds, saunas, hot yoga, exfoliating products and picking at flaking skin. Wear broad-spectrum SPF daily.
